JKBOSE is a nodal agency to implement various kinds of scholarship programmes to reform social, political, economic, intellectual and cultural status of a community. Ensuring merit -based competition, BOSE facilitates learners to explore educational opportunities to grow academically and conducts a number of orientation programmes to reach the masses. It empowers the poor learners to access academic SCHOLARSHIPS excellence in a constrained atmosphere, thereby upholding the spirit of building a just and democratic society. BOSE advertises scholarships, screens forms and scrutinises the eligibility criteria of the aspirants. It consolidates the merit list and also facilitates the renewal of scholarships of the candidates after scrutinising their pass percentage.
It is to benefit students studying in Government/ local body schools/Government aided private schools. The parental income should not exceed Rs 1.5 lacs per annum. Only those students can take the test who have secured at least 55 per cent of marks in Class-VII BOSE conducts NMMS Examination every year along with State Level National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) in the month of November. The scholarship is paid at the rate of Rs 6000/ per annum to the student till he/ she completes his/her studies up to Class-XII. For further information, log on to www.mhrd. gov.in.
Previously called CSS (Central Sector Scheme), it is a scheme by MHRD which provides financial assistance to meritorious students from low-income families to pursue higher studies. The parental income ceiling slab fixed by the GOI is Rs 6 lacs at present. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of the result of Senior Secondary Examination (Class XII) of 10+2 pattern or equivalent. The scholarship is distributed among passouts of Science, Commerce and the Humanities streams in the ratio of 3:2:1. The 768 fresh scholarships per annum as per state quota are awarded for graduate/ postgraduate studies in colleges and universities and for professional courses such as Medical, Engineering, etc. Eligible passouts are provided Rs.10000/- per year at graduation level for the first three years and Rs.20000/- per year at post graduation level. The Department of Science & Technology (DST) sponsors and manages Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE), an innovative programme to tap and sustain the interest of talented students in science at an early age. INSPIRE does not conduct any competitive examination to identify the talent. Students who happen to be under top 1percent under science stream in their respective Board Examination and want to pursue courses in Natural and Basic Sciences at B.Sc or integrated M.Sc level are eligible for the scholarship. An amount ofRs 80,000 is provided per annum.
It is a flagship scholarship of the NCERT started in the year 1963. The purpose of the scheme is to identify talented students and nurture their aptitude. The scholarship is provided in the streams of Science, Social Science, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law. For the courses in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce, the scholarship is provided up to the level of Ph.D. For professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law the scholarship is valid only up to postgraduation. 1000 scholarships are awarded for each group of students appearing for Class X Examination. Reservation: 15 per cent scholarships are reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5 per cent of scholarships for students belonging to the ST category and 3 per cent for Physically Challenged Students. Scholarship: Awardees of NTS Examination receive a sum of Rs.500/- per month as per NTS rules. Selection: A two-stage selection process is conducted for NTSE. In Stage-I, selection is done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students who qualify Stage I are eligible to appear for Stage II examination conducted by the NCERT.
The Board awards every year medals to merit-holders of the Secondary as well as Higher Secondary Examinations conducted by each of its two Divisions of Kashmir and Jammu. Medals are awarded to first position-holders at the Secondary School Examination as well as first position-holders in each of the faculties of a) Science b) Humanities c) Commerce and d) Home Science at HSE, Part- II Merit certificates are given to first twenty rankholders at Secondary School Examination and to first ten position-holders in each of the faculties of Science, Humanities, Commerce and Home Science at Higher Secondary Examination, Part- II.
